Outdoor architecture in Crowborough
A quiet town on the edge of Ashdown Forest, elevated and exposed. Gardens here face wind and clay in equal measure.
Outdoor architecture in Crowborough
Pergolas, outdoor kitchens, garden screens, storage — the elements that give a garden room, rhythm and purpose. We build to fit the house, not from a catalogue. Every structure is specified to the site and detailed for the weather.
Our process
- 01
Briefing — discuss what the structure needs to do, where it sits, how it relates to the house.
- 02
Design and specification — draw the structure, specify materials, confirm foundations.
- 03
Foundations — pour pads or strip footings as the structure requires.
- 04
Frame and build — erect the structure, fit cladding, roofing or screening.
- 05
Services and finish — run electrical if needed, fit lighting, clean and handover.
Materials we use
- Oak (green oak for traditional framing, air-dried for precision joinery)
- Iroko and other tropical hardwoods
- Galvanised and powder-coated steel
- Aluminium (for louvred and contemporary structures)
- Composite cladding and screening
Typical timeline
Two to six weeks depending on the structure. Lead times for bespoke steelwork or green oak can add four to six weeks before site start.
About Crowborough
Detached houses on generous plots, many with mature pine and birch. Heavy clay soil and high rainfall make drainage a priority in every build.
A short drive south from Tunbridge Wells — we work here regularly.
Common questions
Most domestic pergolas fall within permitted development — but height limits and proximity to boundaries apply. We check this at the survey stage and flag if an application is needed.
