Garden walls, steps & retaining in Hythe

A coastal town on the edge of Romney Marsh — exposed, windswept, and with a character shaped by the sea. Salt air influences every material choice.

Garden walls, steps & retaining in Hythe

Walls do structural work — holding ground, marking boundaries, creating level changes. We build in brick, stone and block, coursed and pointed properly, engineered where they need to be, and dressed to the property they sit beside.

Our process

  1. 01

Site survey — assess ground conditions, levels, load requirements and boundary positions.

  2. 02

Specification — choose materials, confirm dimensions, determine if structural engineering is needed.

  3. 03

Foundations — excavate and pour concrete strip footings to the required depth and width.

  4. 04

Build — lay courses, point, install coping and cap, tie in drainage where relevant.

  5. 05

Finish — clean down, backfill retained sections, handover and care notes.

Materials we use

  • Handmade and stock bricks
  • Natural stone (ragstone, sandstone, flint)
  • Rendered block with coping
  • Gabion baskets for retaining
  • Reclaimed materials where appropriate

Typical timeline

One to four weeks depending on length, height and whether structural sign-off is needed.

About Hythe

Mixed housing from Victorian seafront terraces to modern estates. Coastal exposure means materials need to tolerate salt, wind and driving rain.

The furthest point in our Kent radius. We take projects here and plan logistics carefully.

Common questions

Any retaining wall over about 1.2m, or any wall carrying significant lateral load. We flag this at the survey stage and arrange the engineering input if needed — you do not have to source it separately.
